The year-on-year headline inflation rate at the national level accelerated to 9.6 percent in May from 8.3 percent in April. Similarly, core inflation increased to 6.2 percent in May from 5.9 percent in April.

The poverty incidence of families went up from 24.4 percent in 2003 to 26.9 in 2006. In terms of population, it went up to 32.9 from the estimate of 30 percent.

Composite Index ended at 1,905.97 for the month of March. This is lower compared to last February`s 1,921.16.
